Visa & residency
How to get a work visa and residency in Qatar: the sponsorship steps, documents, medical test, family sponsorship and the rules for changing jobs.
Quick answer
Your Qatari employer registers the work visa with the Ministry of Interior and gives you the visa reference number.
If you are from a country with a Qatar Visa Centre, book online at qatarvisacenter.com with your passport and visa number. You must use the centre in your home country.
At the centre you do the medical tests, give your fingerprints and other biometrics, and sign or accept your employment contract electronically.
Once the visa is issued, you travel on your work visa. Your employer should have paid all recruitment fees in Qatar.
After arrival, your employer completes any remaining medical and fingerprint steps and authenticates your contract. Missing the 30-day deadline can bring a QAR 10,000 fine, and you cannot leave Qatar until the permit is issued.
When the permit is approved you get your Qatar ID (QID). Your employer renews the work residence permit when it is due.
